Very enjoyable! I loved the complicated characters, the deviously clever mystery, the snark & witty banter, the multiple points of view, learning the character’s history, & shared experiences, modern world observations, the way past events get sanitized in re-telling, the book references and the dark humor! Looking forward to book #2!

So good! Satisfying mystery, great characters, loved the dialog especially between the cops and their quirkiness was so enjoyable with some parts making me laugh out loud. I liked that the main mystery was solved with one piece left hanging so that it was more believable and also left you wanting more in what is obviously going to be - and should! - a series. I very much appreciated the author's efforts in social commentary about class and race that wasn't preachy, but rather fit perfectly within the rich characters development and conversations between them. Really well-crafted and enjoyable!

This was fun but not great. I feel like there could have been a lot better character development and less talking.

Right where to start with this one…. I am in two minds about this book, one I found it gripping and the mystery interesting. But at the same time I couldn’t get my head around the fact of why the hell should I care about what happens to these people… I found myself being confused with what was going on… why the police didn’t really feel like the police, also it all just felt a bit off. I get that there’s a lot of trauma to get through in this, but some of the stuff that is mentioned by the characters just didn’t really give me much emotion, also Nell I do feel some sympathy for as in she had to deal with the most narcissistic, gaslighting controlling and obsessive stalkerific friend/ boyfriend (he wishes actually more than that in his creepy deluded mind) and this is where I just felt a bit lost and irritated. I have given it 3 stars because though I wish I could give it more I just can’t because I like it but at the same time I find it mildly perplexing and frustrating because I can see how good it could be. There’s not enough for me to feel anything either sympathy or find anything amusing. I am just a bit confused as to the whole point of the book.
