In a Nutshell: In a world where every species has a vicious "monster" version, the last human monster is a young adult grappling with her powers and trying to rise above her species.

I didn't really like this book. I can't even say why, other than it just didn't hold my attention. I didn't find the characters or plot particularly compelling. I just didn't care what happened to anyone in this story. Disappointing, since I really liked the first one.

It's a very interesting second book. I kind of like the way, it all unfolds even though the baseline of the story feels very much like the first!

3 1/2... only because it took me almost a year to finish it and I didn't connect with the story for the first half of the book. Last half was MUCH better!

Read it really quickly but it was not great. It was entertaining but felt as if it had not been planed ahead

Enjoyed this book as much as the first.

BUT, I will say.. this book had a massive amount of similarities to the first book. To the point that Katsa & Fire sometimes seem like the same character, just with different names.

My only hope is that book 3 will be completely different and not a repeat.

Also, book 2 is really a companion novel while book 3 is the actual sequel to book 1. I didn’t realized that going in, so that was interesting.

I officially decided...I love Cashore's writing. I read "Graceling" and adored it and the same goes for this one. Her female characters are SOOO amazing. All of her characters are fantastic really.

The only thing I didn't really like was all the geography and stuff. But that's part of fantasy. I just suck at following it in my brain.

Fire and Brigan might be my OTP. I've never had one of those before. At first I thought "oh, they're so cute together!" Then I revised that statement to "they are so incredibly strong together." They complemented each other so well and it was beautiful.

Highly recommend and will definitely be reading "Bitterblue."
