This book was slightly monotonous, Cathy is quite a painful character, constantly referring to the hatred she feels for her mother that we are all well aware of after the first few chapters.
The ever changing relationship status of Cathy bothered me, she consistently changed partners, marrying someone, dating someone, marrying someone else and so on.
The story was slightly jumpy and I felt it had some holes were the plot was incorrectly executed.
However I still enjoyed this book and felt it was a successful sequel.

This was fantastic! A tale of revenge, love and self identity.

felt like i was in bizarro world whilst reading this when i turned to my girlfriend and said ‘at this point i would much rather cathy be with her middle aged benefactor or brother than her husband’.
i’m glad paul sheffield and julian marquet died they had to pay for their crimes.

rare for me to not finish a book, but after getting over halfway through the book i simply could not read another page of ‘my brother and my adopted father and my husband want to sleep with me and i love them all and hate them all’ reiterated in every possible way.

So bad. I actually really liked the first book, but this was just a 500 page list of contrived family drama and plot twists. At first it was entertaining but it got old.

I see no reason this book should exist.
It begins by negating the end of the first one (where Cathy decides to let bygones be bygones).
There is something that honestly makes me think this book wasn't even written by the same writer. The girl that once was just doing her best to survive and make sure her family survived too became someone that's just trying to have her revenge, no matter the cost and honestly it isn't even a good one. There is not one good choice made by her in this book. I'm so disappointed!
I'm only giving it 2 stars because of Corrine, I truly liked her desperate attempt to explain herself. She's a survivor first and foremost.

If Goodreads used a 4 point rating scale, I'd give it
Spoiler3/4 love interests killed off
.

I can't believe how Cathy and Chris magically turned into regular kids again as soon as they left the attic. Carrie had trauma and hardships that followed her throughout her entire life, but I was really disappointed to see how beautiful, intelligent, loveable, and perfect Cathy and Chris remained. They spent 3 years and 4 months of their adolescence being starved, isolated, and tortured, and yet, as soon as they escape, they continue their lives as if nothing happens. The only thing that followed Cathy is her vendetta against her mother, but other than that, they suffer little to no detriments from their time in the attic. I was disappointed because I thought that readjusting to the world would be an incredible hurdle for them to get over, but Carrie was the only one who struggled with that.

Other than that, it was fun I guess. It's not anywhere near as haunting and captivating as the first book, but it was still enjoyable, despite the way Cathy made me want to slam my head against a wall over and over again for her stupidity. Oh my God, she was so frustrating.

I don’t know why I enjoy This messed up story, but I do. Interested to see where the next book picks up, and how the author chooses to progress the story.
