It's a sprawling story with so many characters of import that it's easy to get lost. It's also a fascinating shift in perspective and culture. 
I felt like I was slow to adapt to the world of the novel, but was happy to eventually settle in. I expect Part 2 might be a shorter learning curve.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I liked the historical aspect. I don't know much about East Asian history so this was a history lesson,  too. I don't know how accurate the depictions are but I was engrossed from start to finish.

I don’t really understand why they decided to split the book up at all never mind where they leave off. Will have to keep reading to see what happens next
