I took a another stab at reading this book because and did enjoy it. I liked the main female characters and the mystery though I guessed a few things early on, still kept me wondering about other things.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Ok, here is the one thing I have a grip about; I see by GoodReads catagorization this is #3 in the series with the characters Rizzoli & Dr. Isle, its my first so I am not as vested in the characters BUT did get a feel for them. Here comes the grip.......Jane getting married, I'm ok with that but a pant suit on her AND the bridesmaids?! Really?!! I just don't buy it. I know she's the tough type and I get it but the pantsuit sounded so unflattering. I think even a character like hers would be able to find something simple or understated in a dress or at least a skirt! Blah! Pants suit for your first (hopefully only) wedding! Yuk!

I'm dissappointed. I just can't get into it but it looks interesting.

I thought this was a decent book. There's something about this series that I struggle with.

At times I wondered if there ever was going to be an investigation because the characters were more busy with love life angst instead of solving any murders, but eventually they got to it. Also, the empathy of the doctor and Jane towards every victim minor and major by the same facility of overactive emotionalist imagination of what must have occurred is getting on my nerves. How can they continue in their work if imagining how murders happened turns them into such intensely unhappy emotional wrecks?

Tess Gerritsen's novels make for smooth and entertaining reads. Not entertaining in the happy, uplifting, comic way. Entertaining meaning will-keep-you-reading-because-it's-just-good. She writes with a voice that is easy to like and easy to understand. Usually I pick up her books because I know it's going to contain lots of good mystery plot twists and character choices. The Sinner just sort of fell flat and was a bit predictable for me. I'll try and write this without spoiling anything.
This novel centers on an investigation surrounding a nun who has been murdered. Later, when readers find out why, there is a bit of shock because typically those sorts of things don't happen. When Gerritsen takes readers deeper into the plot and unveils certain details of why/how things came to be, you want to throw your book across the room. It's unfair what has been done to this poor nun. It's unfair she had to be put through what she went through and readers will question motives and relationships.
Speaking of relationships, Isles' ex-husband comes back to Boston and we get taken into another side of the plot. Maura's ex-husband works at a specific hospital and readers find out why they got a divorce. Seems both parties were guilty of things that led to the divorce, so why did the husband come back? Oh just for perfect Gerritsen timing, that's all. The mystery/investigation that happens with the husband's side of the plot will also leave you questioning things like "How in the world did that just get connected?"
Overall, I think Gerritsen has a relatable style and I love reading her novels. I was just waiting for that typical twist/turn at the end that you never see coming in true Gerritsen fashion. The final chapter surprised me quite a bit, but this wasn't a typical dramatic change. This led us into the following novel where the storylines will continue and a new investigation will be presented. All this being said, I have a nagging curiosity of what will happen in the next book, Body Double...
