I will definitely be continuing with this detective series. I loved the writing and story telling.

Nice little mystery.

Quite a few cool lines like:
"His voice was like the warty, slimy surface of a toad's back. Dawson was not enamored of toads."

Interesting new (to me) mystery series. Felt a little abrupt at times, particularly toward the end, but I'm intrigued enough to read more in the series.

Loved everything about this tale except Quartey's overuse of similes.

3-1/2-4 stars; I liked it quite a lot, and would read more by this author.

This book makes me uncomfortable, the way women are described in this book, the abuse of power by police, and overall the language used to describe people who lived away from city life , idk man... Obviously the way these women were being treated was awful, but the language used felt infuriating like the way western societies look at cultures and traditions different from there's. I'm Haitian and i feel like books like this are written for the pleasure of white consumers , maybe that was the intention of the author..i enjoyed when the author talked about food as some of the recipes reminded me of food back home.
