Palace of Treason: Red Sparrow Trilogy 2 by Jason Matthews

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the second of this trilogy (mostly) lived up to the hype of the first. I could have done without the lurid sex scenes and found the ghosts of her "sisters" to be a bit much. Both, in my opinion, reduced the credibility of the otherwise authentic spy thriller. Loved the details and spy craft, as well as the way Matthews creates his believable characters. I will definitely be back for the third.

Expansive, enthralling, propulsive...I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but this may be some of the best spy fiction being written in a long, long time. The stakes for Dominikia and Nate, a highly-placed Russian intelligence officer / CIA mole and her handler/lover, respectively, are absurdly high, both in tradecraft and and their ill-advised but impossible to stop relationship. The adrenaline fairly leaps off every page, and much as with its predecessor, I couldn't put it down. Really can't wait to see what happens next.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel: high-quality writing, complicated plot line, and characters that you just want to like. Looking forward to the next one.

What an interesting series! Like the first book, this one inc Uses recipes at the end of every chapter. I quite enjoy anticipating what they might be, based on the action of the chapter. Looking forward to the conclusion of the series!

Palace of Treason is a definitive improvement upon its predecessor, and though it’s not a perfect thriller, it is an enthralling and action-packed book. And, once again at the climax, there is enough promise for the next installment. Read my full review here

Very slow start, only started to be interesting after more than 100 pages, but the overall story is good
