This was better than volume 4, but this doesn't feel like a romance because of all the other man/woman relationship stuff.

The tension and slow burn and side characters suddenly becoming main characters is really throwing me off but I love these characters too much to give up so I am giving it another volume in hopes we get back on track.

Just when it was really bugging me that there were no disabled women in this series (or male partners or caregivers) we get this volume. I'm still figuring out how I feel about parts of this five volumes in. Like, on one hand, ALL of the characters with mobility limitations are convinced that they're unloveable. On the other hand, I don't know much about how Japanese culture views disability, and the author is spending a fair bit of time acknowledging the systemic issues that make life difficult for people with certain disabilities. Those issues are going to be different in a country with readily available healthcare (unlike the US) but other things like housing debt and lack of accessibility are still explored. I also like this exploration of caregiving classes, which makes Tsumugi's commitment to being an ongoing advocate that much more sincere. What to make of these side plots with other partners, though? I have no idea.

Also I feel bad for Koreda but DUDE please get some therapy.

I love this series and these characters, but I feel like the storyline has plateaued a bit in this volume...it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next one!
