The book offer a perspective that I haven't read in a novel before, 1950s Iran. Aria is well written and with character development that is felt throughout the story for each of the characters and not just Aria. I also liked the way each of the characters crossed paths during different time periods.

DNF - abandoned at 100 pages. Felt little empathy with the characters, and it felt like it skimmed over the historical facts - I wanted to be immersed in Iran and its events but instead I was left wondering what was happening. Not for me.

Do knihy som išla s tým, že bude plná politických a náboženských tém, avšak opak bol pravdou a kniha sa omnoho viac venovala medziľudským vzťahom. Vedľajšie postavy boli možno trošku nevýrazné, no vynahradila mi to Aria - hlavná postava, ktorú sa nedá si neobľúbiť.

I am torn. Great writing, but I feel I didn’t understand many of the characters. The Iranian Revolution unfolds in last 50 pages.

I feel like there's so much for to say, however I feel like I can only say a few words. I wish the book had not stopped. The book could have had 1000 pages and I would have been happy. I really enjoy the storytelling of Aria's life and of Iran.
I'd recommend this book.

Overall it is a good book. It was just a really long story but I got attached to Aria and had to know how it ended. Also a good literary depiction of “seven degrees of separation.” Close to the end it got really dark, really fast

Gave me much to Google, and left my sighing over the shittiness of men who impose dress codes and restrictions on women (as per), but as a novel left me rather cold. Little character development, and Aria herself a cypher.
