I know you shouldn’t start with a negative, but I found this latest book in the series to be really disappointing. I’ve read most of the series now and usually really enjoy them, but the relationship drama has felt like a soap opera and I’m not sure we really needed it at all. Let the poor woman have a couple of books of peace and quiet. It just all feels so over the top. I know that people take rejection badly and there probably has been instances where a bad personality can make someone else’s life hell, but it did feel really over the top. All the posturing and I’m gonna take her down’. It’s like an episode of EastEnders and totally overshadowed the crime story which is what I read these books for.
The actual crime element of the book was really good and intriguing. I love the crimes not connected so how do we connect them plot line and this one worked well with a good twist at the end. Two in fact. I enjoyed trying to join the dots on the case and see if I could work it all out.
I’m glad that the soap opera element seems to have come to an end (I hope). I was seriously considering not to read any more books if it continued

I have read all of the Helen Grace series and I love it. This wasn’t my favourite book from the series but it is still a great read. I found the Helen & Hudson storyline distracted from the plot and the pace was a bit off. I did guess the link but if you don’t look too hard into how realistic it is it was still a gripping read. I also think Garanita makes such a great added villain because she is just so vile. If you hate cliff hanger endings this might not be the book for you but I am looking forward to reading the next installment.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
