I really enjoyed this book! These girls are headstrong, loving, and so, so funny. I appreciate the editors’ effort to include epistolaries not just from white settler families, though felt that some girls’ future bigotries was intentionally unmentioned (for example, M. Carey Thomas features in this collection prominently, and neither her racism nor her anti-Semitism is addressed).

Cute and well-curated diary entries and memoir excerpts. The author did a good job of presenting selections with strong punchlines or interesting details on one specific subject, making this a good book for someone with a casual interest in the topic who wouldn't want to work through the source texts in full.
