I read this based on this blog post at codinghorror.com, including this bit about the book:
Why does this self-help book work when so many others fail? In a word, science! The author goes out of his way to find actual published scientific research documenting specific ways we can make small changes in our behavior to produce better outcomes for ourselves and those around us.

It's dense but has good stuff. Now that I've read and get the theory behind the findings, what I really need now is a distillation of the tips.

Entertaining, evidence-based (hurrah) summary of aspects of self-improvement. Anyone got a photo of a baby I can borrow.....?

1 of my all time favourite books. A self-help book that is not full of BS. It gives scientific grounding to some of the tips, tricks that can be achieved within 1 minute. It also exposes a bankrupt the self-help industry can be.
Highly recommended.

Great fun and very realistic. Have a notepad handy for the tests. I like the assertion that personal responsibility is a big part of your success or failure.

Well-research and very informative. There were a lot of revelations and this is something I would keep on reading. The book tears down a lot of the myths that we know, but presents a better alternative using empirical evidence. It's a book you would read until it's over.

While the book is quite interesting, compiling a lot of work on human behavior, psychology and sociology, it tends to dwell to much into details while you'd expect something more straightforward. But while the path is windy, the arrival is still interesting and you'll learn some interesting tricks about yourself and how to, indeed, improve some parts of your life. Just not tremendously.
