Staggering to think how a five year old survive the terrifying ordeal of being lost in such conditions.

I have now read the book and seen the movie, and they are both moving and a must in there own ways - neither better than the other. Obviously the book shares more of the story but it portrayed so well on the screen.

I had a difficult start on this book -- I purposely avoid stories that involve harm to children, and this one started rough. Soon, though, themes of love, hope, and belonging rose above the frightening events in Brierley's early life. So many wonderful characters in this story - a true story - of Brierley's life and two families. Although this is simply a telling -- and I'm fond of literature rather than straight narrative -- what an essential story to be told! Inspiring, humbling, and ultimately, hopeful.
