This book brought back so many great memories of the Red Dwarf TV show. One of my all time favourite shows so no surprise I loved the book too. Almost 5 stars but not quite, mainly because I think if you have never watched the show you would struggle a little keeping track of the book. For me I could of course see all the character clearly and the scenes were already pre-created in my memory so the weirdness that was easy to interprete in video was ust as easy in text.
Ending on a cliff hanger I am now going to keep a look out for book 2

I think I like the books even better than the TV series --- the same sense of humor with the the addition of internal thoughts from the characters and crazy set pieces in the plot.

If you liked the show "Red Dwarf", prefer works that are akin to Douglas Adams and Robert Sheckley, this will be a fast, ever gripping read that's hard to put down. Very comedic and vivid.

This is a very silly book and I'm happy it exists. I will note that my five star review is probably not representative of universal opinion - I had a blast as a big fan of the cult TV show Red Dwarf. The book captures the characters really well and feels like a parallel universe version of the TV show. It steals some ideas, but is interesting enough to be engaging.
I think it would still be remarkably good silly sci-fi a la Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy even if I'd never heard of Red Dwarf, but I can't say for sure.
Also for my audio book heads out there, Chris Barrie (Rimmer) reads the audio book version. It is fantastic.
