The best book I've read in years. Everyone must read it. It represents perfectly many situations from our reality.

His prescient understanding of the political possibilities seem chillingly accurate. The writing is generally good although weak in places, dated of course, but an entertaing read.

This book may be read as an analysis of history, explanation of popular socialist ideology, and a tragic tale of future struggles against the U.S. empire. I can’t say I found the writing in this particularly spectacular—but the storyline and interpretation of history are very important. It is the first fictional revolutionary story set in the United States—in relation to its specific hurdles to revolution—that I have read. Many thoughts on my own understanding of revolutionary struggles, dedications to specific ideology, and the question of violence in revolution. Can a struggle ever effectively take on the US empire? London suggests that a journey to this would be immensely tragic and without conviction. I believe there would be other ways.

Lot of parallels between this story set 100 years ago and the current situation with President Caligula. Hopefully not all prophetic.
