Ana Dolabra and Dinius Kol are fantastic leads.
Most of my latest fantasy reads written by men have disappointed me as they lack a sense of proportion when it comes to sex, violence and darker themes, but this was a pleasant surprise. The holy empire of Khanum is a wonderful creation by the author - I loved the creativity, and the complex layers that he has woven into the lore and the world. His characters were rich, real and detailed, and so were the events. It was easy to be totally engaged in the details of the investigation, of Ana's outrageously derived conclusions, of Din's stoic narration.
There was well timed humour, along with information being supplied to the reader at the right moments. The pace set to the story was enjoyable, and it slowly picked up and reached a well rounded, meaningful end. I am quite sad that I didn't savour the book more, and I might just read it again to fully appreciate the wonderful, imaginative world that has nature and plants work together with humans to improve the quality of life, and there are titans circling in the murky sea waters around the world. I wanted more.
It has been some time since I have enjoyed a book so much, and I cannot wait for the next adventure that these two embark upon.

I absolutely loved this. The worldbuilding was so immersive, the writing was descriptive and drew me in right from the get go, the characters were full of heart and absolutely hilarious. I loved Din and Ana's relationship and how they each had their own struggles and quirks. I loved all the side characters as well. The mystery was very fun and twisty, and the overarching fantasy elements made this all the better. I can't wait for the next book, and I will definitely be picking up some of this author's backlist.
