Thank you to PRH Audio for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
This is a really solid YA thriller. I honest never pinned down who the killer was in this one until the reveal, which is always a big plus. But be ready for some heavy angst. Because these teenagers are dealing with some heavy stuff, and honestly terrible teammates and bullies at school. I might honestly have some new wrinkles from how often my nose wrinkled at the teammates who should have been supporting each other. I also caught myself wishing the “detective” in this would stub his pinky toe every day for the rest of his life. Yeah. Yes he’s that gross. But a solid listen, it kept me engaged.
Stella thought she had a scholarship to Georgetown in the bag, but after the incident last year, everyone thinks she’s damaged goods. She went a specialized program over the summer to work on her running and it came with a side of therapy. But she’s back and captain of the cross country team. It doesn’t matter that coach made another girl co-captain because of it. It doesn’t matter that people think she’s prone to violence. She is going to show them how good she really is. Until a transfer student shows up to be on the team, and it’s someone she knows. Because she is really, really fast. Competitive may as well be her middle name, but violence is not. But when a student turns up dead, everyone thinks she did it- including the town detective.

this book was so captivating and drew me in from the very beginning. i was touched by how Stella and Ellie's sisterly relationship grew closer as the book progressed and writing of the book was beautiful, allowing me to really empathise with the characters

This book is pretty good. It isn’t really anything special, but a fun murder mystery!

it was suuuper slow at the beginning, and the twist was good, just not that great.

I did not love this book. I didn't like either main character. They both sucked and I felt the pacing was really weird.

A book about running. A book about murder. A book about competition. Sadly, while still 3 stars.. I am disappointed.
This was one of my most OMG I Need To Read Books, and while I did have moments that I enjoyed (hence the 3 stars), there were just too many moments that weren’t my favourites. Since I am tad tired I will do a good/not so good review.
