πŸ“‘ COMMENTS:
β€’ Social commentary is woven into both the plot and dialogue naturally. Sisterhood and friendship are core themes, which give an uplifting feeling to dark subjects.
β€’ *Most* of the plot twists are predictable. It takes a surprising amount of time before the disappearance occurs, but that gives the readers time to get to know the character better.
β€’ The ending is beautiful and heart-wrenching (but hopeful), even if it doesn't make sense. Seriously, prepare to suspend your disbelief from around the climax onward.
β€’ The protagonists' journeys are rewarding. Side characters are developed decently, and some experience growth too. There are occasions where the characters' motivations don't make sense, and I assume we are meant to classify it as teenage stupidity.

Pretty solid story, but I didn't LOVE it. I liked seeing how the sisters relationship grew and changed. I knew a bunch of people who were in crosscountry so that was pretty cool to read a story centered around a sport people don't really focus on. I think the very end was pretty satisfying. Wish Noah would've faced more consequences tho.

A very average YA thriller β€” not the best plot, but it kept me hooked at times. Noah is an asshole.

This book is told from the perspective of two sisters, Stella and Ellie. I like both of the sisters well enough. I preferred Stella as a character but having Ellie’s perspective really helped the book. I loved their relationship as sisters and appreciate that they had legitimate flaws and were rounded individuals.
I also appreciate the candid thoughts on being a women with power and something to say. The author had some really good lines in the book. If it was something I owned I think I would have highlighted or underlined several lines. She tied in discussions about the pressure of high school athletics well.
I legitimately was left wondering until the end and enjoyed the character development that occurred through out.

As for diversity in the book: sexualities are discussed and there are a couple POC individuals. That being said the sisters are not POC.

honestly with the way it ended, i sort of wish there was an epilogue or a time skip forwards after for the aftermath, but i like the mystery in what happens after the book ends too. Mila deserved better, but there are quite a few layered characters and back stories in this book.
