They'll Never Catch Us by Jessica Goodman

Several years ago, there was a series of murders in Edgewater. All of the victims were on the track team, their bodies found on the same trail, each with their shoelaces missing and no sign of sexual assault. The police fumbled the investigations and they remain unsolved. Now, just when everyone feels safe again, another girl on track goes missing. Is the killer back, or is there a new copy-cat-killer on the loose?

Intriguing, right? Aren’t you on the edge of your seat? Don’t you want justice for those girls? Don’t you want answers????

That’s too bad. You won’t get any. In fact, the author completely forgets about the unsolved murders that are basically the entire setup of the book by the last few chapters. But that’s okay; it’s not like the mysteries in mystery-thrillers are supposed to be SOLVED.

I was never bored, but I kept waiting for things to happen. The missing person doesn't disappear until halfway through the book! But my biggest criticism is that a couple important side characters seemed flat and undeveloped, and their actions seemed artificial and unbelievable, and that made the conclusion a bit anticlimactic for me. Excellent storytelling though.

This book had me right away. I was hooked within the first 20 pages. I had my guesses as to what happened and I was kind of right. It kept me on my toes the entire time wondering what happened. I liked the characters and how complex they were and real they felt. I hated Noah right from the start and was right to hate him too.
If you’re looking for something filled with mystery and keeps you wondering, this is it.
