I picked up this book after reading the first one in the series, as I was interested to see how the character of Liz developed. Overall this was an enjoyable book, and I'm rating it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because I did enjoy it greatly.
The strength of the first book, namely that the two main characters were adults and acted like it, was present in this book but not as strongly. I think this is due to more of the conflict in this story coming from external sources, as in the first book Liz provides conflict to Mick and Tara in one situation, but in this book Mick is the source of conflict between Liz and Gavin most of the time. I also feel that Liz was well developed as a character and had a growth arc throughout her relationship with Gavin, but he was not developed nearly as well with his main story being more of a "grow up and get out from your brother's shadow" trope.
As an aside, I LOVE Liz's character, her job, and how she handles it. I've started learning about marketing on my own recently, and seeing how Liz markets and handles her sports star clients was fascinating. I also appreciate the nods to how difficult her job is as a woman in a male-dominated industry, but also nods to how she has an advantage at times and isn't afraid to use it. I could've done without some of the sudden "oh woe, now I love someone and my career is over" whining near the end of the book, however - I feel that Liz is a stronger woman who could be much more rational as she considers changes in her lifestyle. I think the author went this way to give the "ice lady" some emotions and feels, but that ended up being a bit too tropey for me.
I also was less impressed by the multiple back-and-forth of "we can't be together, EVER" and hot sex, with a rinse and repeat. A few times, yes, but in the first book Mick and Tara figured it out a lot faster and more adult-like than Liz and Gavin did in this book, and it got a bit tiresome. The sex scenes were good and well written again, though the "oh let's have anal!" surprise was definitely unrealistic and a little jarring. Ah, well, can't win them all.
Solid 3.5 stars, and as mentioned before I enjoyed the book so I'm rounding up to 4. Worth a read if you read the first one, or like contemporary style romances with a sports genre aspect.

3.5 stars, due to personal preference. I don't particularly think that this held as much depth in the romance as the first book did, until way after 50% of the book was over. I swear every chapter at the start just seemed to be sex. And lots of weirdly awkward dirty talk. I just don't feel that when you dirty talk, you talk in short sentences like most books write it lately. Maybe they do, but all guys lately seem to talk the same like "suck it" "so good" "going to come" like, if that's all they say half the time, the only sentences, it just seems like they're barking out random lines all the time. Seems weird to me, but maybe I've just never experienced that and all these writers have? I don't know, must be as nearly every guy's talking lines consist of just that. short, extremely short sentences, and not much talking. Dunno, just weird to me!

2.5* rounded up. This book was literally porn on paper. And the parts that weren’t all sex was contrived and predictable. I might pass on any others by this author.

I enjoyed this much more than the first in the series. I was a bit surprised that the author portrayed Mick from the first book as such an ass. I couldn't stand him by the end of this novel and wouldn't have forgiven him! The relationship between Gavin and Liz was more believable, but the plethora of love scenes in these novels tends to drag down the story for me. Maybe one or two fewer would have been perfect.
