This book dragged in the middle so much more than I was expecting. I never thought war could be so boring. Overall I didn't care much about the Malini storyline, but the Bhumika and Priya storyline was interesting, so I have hope for the final book.

Loved this follow-up to The Jasmine Throne! This deepened our existing conflicts so deliciously - internally for both Malini and Priya as they navigate their individual gifts and callings and externally for their nations as they grapple with the cost of Empire and the possibility of not-so-mortal interference. I loved the slow-boiling tension, rapidly rotating POVs (one of my favorite elements of this series so far) and the light horror elements woven in (I was disappointed to get less time in the Hirana but we make up for it with the Yaksa!). The romantic longing is so well done (the epistolary moments at the start were a perfect way to bring their angst on page) and I cannot wait to see how these two navigate all that will come next. And Bhumika!!!! [internally screaming]

This book was the beyond amazing. Everything that was good about the first book ‘The Jasmine Throne’ was done 100x better in this book!! From the  multiple POVs to the compelling writing to the beautifully executed plot- i LOVED ITTT
It was the perfect mix of amazing fantasy plot and romance
(AND ALSO HAS A LESBIAN SEX SCENE?!!?!?! LETS FUCKING GOOOO
and the ending was so gut wrenching😫😫😫😫perfectly presents the pain of worship and sacrifice. If i could give this book more than 5 stars i would

I love Suri’s prose. It’s so poetic and tragic, the way she describes even the most mundane things. This book ran deeper than the first one did, though it was just as heartfelt.
