This book has way to many references to pedophilia, rape, and incest for me to even try finishing it.

I loved another series by this author so I wanted to try another by her. I don't know how this was even published! Everything from violence to child rape is covered. This was just horrifying and I don't recommend anyone read this.

I never hate read anything, but by 50% into this book and I hated everything about it. How did this book become such critical acclaim for essentially being nothing more than sexual torture and rape porn? The one redeeming factor is nothing is explicit. Thank God for small miracle, right? That said, I liked Surreal. And maybe Cook. Daemon can get shaved then broken.

I was going through withdrawals after having finished the last installment of The Others, so I decided to start this series. And oh my god, this might have been the worst book I’ve ever read in my life. I wouldn’t even have guessed it was the same author. I had to double- and triple check just to make sure. I kept trying to finish it because it’s ongoing and she’s clearly gotten much better since this was published, but I just can’t do it…

Extremely problematic setting and the overall story relies heavily on a caste system and on abuse to create drama.
