First of all i am shocked at the amount of readers that haven't told people about the Pedophilia or child abuse in this series. i know i know its a fantasy book, its not real but when I'm reading a book i don't want to read about how this 100 something year old dude wanting to mount a 12 year old or how she has a funny uncle. (and yes now i cannot even fathom calling my own uncle by his well deserved title because she used it as a name for the pedo's. The Uncles) I am incredibly disappointed as i enjoy a lot of Anne Bishops other work and i do applaud her outside the box thinking with her other series but i just couldn't believe how over sexualised and definitely not feminist book this was. yes the woman ruled the world but in the most abhorrent way i have ever seen. they were rapists, bitchy, catty evil woman that i would never call a strong female role model.
anyway i just felt i needed to warn readers about what they are getting into before reading this.
this book will stick with me for years to come and it isn't because of how amazing it was, it will be because of the nightmares i had from it.

I read this years ago and never marked it as read. The story was ok. I read it because I loved the authors other series, The Others. The two series are nothing alike though. I’m wondering if some of my dislike of this book is that it was very early in her career. The other part of my dislike was some of the sexual content with a very young character… Definite ick factor.

10,000 stars. Goddamn, Anne Bishop can write a story. This was her debut?
