This was just fine imo, and I'm starting to wonder if maybe Luxuria was a flash in the pan. The characters felt a bit flat, and while I think a character being demi in this world has so much GREAT potential, the pacing was a bit off for me and didn't have the pay off I was expecting? Like Austin being demi, a female monster/male human pairing, a bodyguard trope, there was so much going for this and it just unfortunately didn’t work for me. I also hate the "we can't be together for reasons" trope, and that was a lot of the conflict for them getting together. Also I hated the reveal at the end with Selene's bio dad
I think I'm going to continue with the series for now (if only purely for the, hopefully worth it, long term pay off of waiting for Damen's book), but I'm hoping I like the novella and the fourth book a bit more!
Absolutely loved Astrid and Selene's interactions, I still stand by my opinion that they would've made a great couple
Graphic: Sexual content and Classism
Moderate: Violence, Death of parent, Pregnancy, and Alcohol
Classism related to many of the minor characters' treatment of Selene based on where she comes from/not being from nobility // At the beginning Austin is drinking heavily and it's implied that he has an issue with alcohol/addiction, though it isn't really explicitly addressed. // Selene's mother
