This was such a fun, mysterious read! I was hooked from the beginning and stayed that way through the end. Such great character build, and the plot- spectacular! I will definitely read the others in the series.

This is the second Tana French book I've read and she's quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.

I don't really think I can do this book a proper justice with my review, it feels like I'm lacking the proper words to express how I feel about it. The writing left me captivated entirely through the book and it seemed like the main attraction. The whole story is very much "journey before destination", you're not going going to get a typical crime investigation with a typical case that gets solved and wrapped in a bow. The character exploration really takes the forefront, the journey of book felt more worthwhile than the ending; the crime and the solving of it almost feels like the vehicle for everything else that I adored about the book.

I can't get enough of French's writing, I don't know if I can find the right descriptors for it and what draws me to it so much, but it leaves me glued to the page right the way through, and I'm very quickly going to be looking for more of her books.

I could probably go on forever about everything I liked in the book but all I'll say is that it's made me reevaluate how I look at books I've liked in the past and whether they're truly 5 stars, because this felt like a proper 5 star read.

Enjoyment - 5/5
Writing - 5/5
