3.5 stars. This was cute, but wrapped up a little too quickly and easily for me. I kind of hated Rachel's best friend Monique. I get that it was an "I love you, so I'm pushing you out of your comfort zone" thing but it read more as "I'm pushy and don't worry about your feelings" thing for me. I think it would pair well w stories about lottery winners. Fame: so fascinating, but so different from what we think it'll be like!

It was ok. While I do have a slightly different perspective on instant Internet fame, this book was pretty predictable. Kyle was just a little too perfectly perfect… Rachel was just too oblivious of how pretty she was (of course). Cute book, but just 3 stars for me.

Ergh, I don't think this book was my cup of tea. (I mean, drooling crushes, "hot boys", mean girls, and basically romcoms aren't my type so I shouldn't be so surprised) I had eyed this book for several months and I finally read it to be a bit disappointing. It's nice for what it's worth though.
I love to be surprised, so having a very predictable plot didn't work out for me. Books can be written beautifully with a simple plot, however. The writing was fairly good but I didn't feel hooked to it. Reading this novel felt forced, because for some reason once I read a book, no matter what.
I seriously felt that Kyle fell off flat. His perspective was general and it was like he was a puppet. He doesn't have any goals or real interests - just going big! Come on, something more than fame and Rachel.
Our heroine Rachel is typical. Not much to say there. I empathize with her going through harassment but at the same time, it felt unreal. But hey! That's what fiction is all about! (Still make the unreal feel real though!) Monique didn't give off an interesting vibe, just excitedly root for her best friend. I almost forgot she existed in the novel.
ALSO, let's talk about Kyle's former girlfriend, Emma.
I was secretly hoping that he'd go back to her but then she just became all unstable after the whole blew up. First I thought, aw she's nice even after all this but then she becomes possessive. It does make sense for her to act so mad though. It must be tough, although I hated some of the things she did.(If there is a good book where the guy ends up going back to the former and becoming friends with the protagonist, let me know.)
She kissed Kyle, HER BOYFRIEND, and he just forgot it all and went to Rachel, who he SECRETLY kissed previously. (I did get Rachel becoming upset after their kiss)
I hated Laura (and her show) for making them act together (super excited like Monique) and then eventually them getting together. I seriously thought they'd tell her (and them) off.
AND ALSO, Rachel's former friend Jessie had a very interesting story behind her and I thought we'd learn more as an intriguing subplot. But all there was just an average mean girl. Even so, what motivated her to act so cold to Rachel?
The book has so much potential and it could be more. The final dish is okay but it's not very flavorful. Even though I hate the plot, it could still be improved to feel a lot more comfortable. For a debut, it's alright. Hope to see the author advance in writing! :)
(LOL, I seriously thought I had no emotions and never pondered over what I read and this review proved me wrong.)

This book: too many semi-colons. Besides that, enjoyable. Rachel was definitely a great character and Kyle grew a ton on me. Would recommend if you’re looking for something cute!

like, it was cute! as YA rom-coms go, it was cute, very breezy, very readable. basically someone taking the alex from target story and converting into a love-letter for frizzy haired artsy girls. my demographic, especially fifteen years ago. but i wish so much of YA, including this story, didn't rely on the mean girls tropes to push things forward. especially when there was some initial hope that emma, the primary mean girl, might have a layer or two. false, ultimately. hope is dead and im exhausted by stories where girls are always punishing other girls because of boys

Rachel has approximately twelve followers on Flit, the best social media platform around. So she doesn't feel guilty about snapping a quick photo of the hottie at the burger counter. No one's ever going to see it, after all. It's just harmless fun!
Rachel is used to being unseen. She works at it. It's much better than being a target for the jocks and mean girls at school. So she's completely unprepared when a spur of the moment Flit (Tweet) catches on in a huge way. Suddenly everyone knows her name, and the name of her target. But while he's getting praise and kudos just for being male, she has the world coming down on her for daring to be female.
It's sadly accurate; women online are far more likely to be harassed than men are. But the story isn't all gloom and doom. There's a sweet love story here too. Kyle is sweet and kind, just a nice guy. But not a Nice Guy. That's important.
The characters each had their own tone, which is important. I could tell which of them was talking even without the chapter headers. It's very well done.
I enjoyed the story very much. It's well written and flowed well. I look forward to more by Jilly and I hope this one does well.
I could feel my cheeks getting hot. I walked over to grab my bag.
"So you get a pass, since it's my fault. In exchange, can you make the effort to attend from here on out? Or at least not make it painfully obvious to everyone else that you're ditching? I need my best student to lend me some credibility."
I smiled. It felt weird; I don't think I'd done it all day.
"Yeah, I think I can handle that."
"Good, thank you. Can't let those animals think I'm soft." He smirked. Sometime Mr Jenkins almost made me believe teachers got it.
I walked over to my my bag, still sitting underneath my desk.
"Rachel," he said as I was heading out.
"Yes?"
"I know it's hard to believe right now, but this will blow over."
"Thanks, Mr Jenkins," I said, trying to sound upbeat.
When he was making such an effort to be nice, it didn't feel fair to mention that it might blow me over with it.
