The mystery was good and I enjoyed the book but as with most foreign book I feel like it probably lost something in translation.

Não é bom nem mau, é daqueles policiais ótimos para as férias que se lêem num instante, mas duvido que fique para a memória.

I picked up The Forgotten Girls by Sara Blaedel because my husband and I were looking for a book to read together. Unfortunately, it was a struggle for us to get in to this as a read aloud book. We weren't excited to pick it up each night. It had a very slow start and so we decided to drop it for that purpose and I just decided to finish it on my own. I was almost 100 pages in on a 300 page book before I really felt the action in a thriller to pick up. Then the pace was good for awhile and then suffered from the issue of wrapping up too quickly. And, there was also a very upsetting twist at the end that created loose ends for the next novel in the series. The twist put me over the edge into distaste for the book. Additionally, the book had moments where it felt kind of stilted, but I think perhaps it could be blamed on the translation. I'm under the impression that a native Danish speaker translated it to English, but I think a native English speaker should have then done an additional translation to make certain moments more fluid. Overall, it felt like fairly standard mystery fair, but it lacked the qualities that make some thrillers so fascinating.

I wanted to like this book. I listened as an audiobook and the narrator used a. southern American accent for some characters, country bumpkin for some, a Minnesotan accent for one and an Irish accent for another. That was all so distracting that I don’t really know if I liked the writing. I would not recommend this book as an audiobook.

This was a good mystery! It did have several difficult parts to read as far as subject matter, but I really enjoyed the main character.

premise was super interesting, but i liked it less and less the more the book wore on, which is the opposite of what you want
