A well-written psychological horror story. Gave me the shivers, and a couple random noises I heard in my home whilst reading it gave me a start.

The story leaves a lot for reflection, with our main character arriving a sceptic and leaving a changed man. Short and to the point, The Red Room is a good demonstration of what a short story ought to be. The writing is evocative, though somewhat dated; and the reveal of the plot's antagonist makes the reader fall into the story, seeing their own red room laid ominously out in front of them.

not a bad little ghost story, nothing super exciting and not the scariest thing i've ever read. kind of average but not bad at all, 2.5 stars

This was creepy but more in an existential gloom kinda way. The way you can be more afraid of the unknown thing in the dark than the actual monsters in the light.
