This is the first book by this author I've read. I've had my eyes set on book 4 for a very long time because I thought the cover looked cool, but then felt bad about starting with the fourth book of the series. So, being the weirdo I am, I started with book 3 instead. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
While the plot was farcical at times, it was definitely entertaining. The author took the time to flesh out the personalities of Amelia's family and showed how well-meaning parents can stifle and harm the child if they do not heed the child's wishes and concerns. The hero was the typical 'feelings-give-me-allergies' type but it's understandable, considering the harsh life he faced as a child. (I got tired of him leering at Amelia's bosom, though - how many times did I have to read the same thing?) The foster family were chaotic and loving and each member's personality combined to make them a force to be reckoned with. There was some info-dumping about the class system in those times and what problems crop failure caused for both the nobility and their tenants. It was certainly educative and made me realize other historical fiction authors do it too, only more subtly, which was why I didn't notice it until now.
I appreciated that even though I started with book 3 of the series, I was able to keep up with the characters and didn't feel like I had missed out on too much. I would say that this can be comfortably read as a stand-alone. The book made for an informative and pleasant read.

creo que se podria sacar mas jugo del libro, no ha estado mal la historia pero el final me hubiera gustado un poco menos precipitado.
