I didn't like Akkarin, even after a lot of explanations were made. He was always made to seem like this aloof old guy and the attempts to humanize him failed, at least from my perspective. It was nice to see Cery and Sonea grow into themselves; I liked them much better as adult-ish people than as kids. It was a good story that made me want to continue reading. There's another series that comes after this one and I am definitely reading it.

the ending was so rushed tho like the last scene seemed like it had been written in a few minutes tops...shame

The High Lord is a fantastic conclusion to the trilogy in spite of the contrived, gut-wrenching demise of my favourite character at the end.

And that's the final part of the series! I'm glad I re-read them, they hold up really well and unlike a lot of other books I loved when I was younger, I still had a very good time with them. They didn't blow me away or anything, especially the last one felt a bit drawn out, but they're solid, old-school fantasy that's definitely worth a read.
And honestly, I'd re-read them again, just for Dannyl and Tayend.
Unfortunately the last part falls short in a few ways. I don't know if I felt like that because I was rushing through it, but I felt a bit of a disconnect towards the characters at the end. It's all very tragic, but the emotions didn't quite reach me. Maybe because I have a bone to pick with Akkarin
Spoiler(she's 13 years younger, my man!! No!! At least he's self aware, but that doesn't make this any less not ok)
.
Another thing that bothered me, was that whole scenes would be repeated as conversations, after they'd just happened. No, you don't need to explain everything again, you just described it, I don't need to hear another person's perspective if that perspective doesn't add anything.

I liked the rest. Maybe for nostalgia reasons. But that still counts.
