DNA:
-Old Timey Language
-Strong female narrator (I listened to the audible version)
-Mild peril only
-Sudden shifts in mood
-Lightness
-A touch of gender roles that doesn't spoil the pot.

This was a charming novella. However, I'm too discombobulated to give it a star rating because: I thought I had borrowed a book by Christopher Moore (author of absurdist fantasy/horror) but I had borrowed a book by Christopher Morley (Rhodes scholar who lived a hundred years ago). This completely altered my experience of the book. But it's a delightful little adventure akin to LM Montgomery or Louisa May Alcott. But not Christopher Moore.

This book is a sweet, fun, and funny adventure through the countryside full of odes to good books. I had no idea what to expect when I started it, but I found the characters charming, and it moved along so quickly I was able to finish it in an evening.
