'I feel like getting married, or committing suicide, or else subscribing to L'Illustration. Something desperate, you know'

this is my second book by camus god i love his writing style with it's vivid characters and descriptions that i just sink into. i found that this book got better the more i read and left me with the ghost feeling of the sun against my cheek. simply now i just wish to live in the house above the world forever

Aunque la historia en sí no sea una gran historia, sirve - en esta que fue, la primera novela de Camus- como hilo conductor a reflexionar sobre la felicidad y el modo/camino de lograrla ¿dinero? ¿Amor? ¿Proyectos? Un libro breve que he subrayado mucho.

I took significantly more insights away from this work than I expected. There were undoubtedly some very beautifully well-written passages throughout. However, a discussion of what it means to live a happy life spurred my reflections over the past few days.

This book was never quite “finished,” as Camus decided The Stranger was the stronger work. However, the rough and candid quality of the text made this more valuable work for me.

What I took away from this were probably not the intended messages, but this was a valuable read nonetheless.

"Today, in the face of abjection and solitude, his heart said: “No.” And in the great distress that washed over him, Mersault realized that his rebellion was the only authentic thing in him, and that everything else was misery and submission."
