I don't see a point to this book. Nothing important to the over all story happened. They climbed up this mountain and climbed back down and that was it. Yeah they killed a few Reapers during it but what was the point? And then this whole thing that you can only pick the flower during a FULL MOON. I went back and looked again if it really said full moon and yes, it did! But after that one mention of the full moon it never appeared again. Suddenly it was "you need to pick the flower at midnight preferably in a frosty night". Because that was so much more convenient, since they didn't have a month to wait around for a full moon. I didn't care much about the tragic history of Gwen's dad either because I already figured out he probably didn't die of cancer but no one ever seemed to question it.
I'm just wondering how her grandma concealed all these secrets from Gwen because they are constantly touching.

First Thoughts when Finished: Oh how I hope that a certain someone is in books to come! She had spunk just like Gwen!
Story Thoughts: I am a SUCKER for finding long lost, didn't know about them family. Especially when they have just as much reason to be sad, mad, and grumpy. Midnight Frost was a great adventure for Gwen and we got transported to a new location. In fact, we got to meet some new people and interact with Gryphons *sigh* (I really want a Gryphon--in the epic words of Warner Bros: I wanna hug him and squeeze him and call him George"). Actually, I really like where Midnight Frost is taking the story. Gwen is having to step up her game, protect her pack (and they protect her), and realize just how important those around her really are. On the romance front just don't get me started!
Character Thoughts: Midnight Frost took us away from Mythos and introduced some new characters. New characters that I happen to really like and hope are in books to come. The core character is always Gwen and she shined! She showed humility, caring, daring, and patience. While Logan went back to a "maybe" I won't want to sock him character in this book for me; he did make an appearance and he did step up! Of course, Daphne kind of stole the show! She is the girl with all the great lines!
Audio Thoughts:
I think Tara does a great job with the narration of the series. I think my only problem lies with Logan's voice and he isn't in this one much. Otherwise, she nailed Gwen! Her emotions, her quips, and her spunk! As always I suggest listening to a sample before committing to an audio book. Even those of us who listen to them don't always agree on narrators. (I added that in because lately I have been asked how to decide what audio book to listen too.)
Final Thoughts: Why did I have to catch up? I mean now I have to wait *sigh*

I feel during the writing of this book Jennifer actually listened to the people reviewing her books and made sure that Gwen grows she became such a nicer character to read. I actually liked her by the end of this book and that is saying something.
She listens and she grows the heck up. It is a shame she waited until book 5 actually wake Gwen up but I'm glad I stuck with it.
We see Gwen in this book finally do something, she gets help from another 'scary monster' who shows that Reapers are evil as this wasn't scary nor was it evil. Quite the opposite.
Again with the predictability, if the character is too nice and it puts you on edge its because they're bad news, Gwen needed to open her eyes and mind a little sometimes I knew knew knew knew that it wasn't all fine and dandy about her dad. It was too wrapped up in a little bow with him being a good guy. Didn't work, there was a story there or had to be.

It's been a while since I read book 4 in this series, but after only a chapter I felt like I was catched up again on the events and could enjoy the story. Jennifer Estep uses the right amount of recap to make you feel like you don't miss anything. The story starts of a bit slow, but after that the pace improves and there is action, adventure and more. Someone gets poisoned and Gwen and her friends have to go and find the antidote. This series can be a bit cliché at times and predictable, but I just love it. The story is engaging and Gwen her determination to help her friends and do what's right is admirable. Even though she's still hurting over what happened in the last book, she goes forward and tries to help.
This book takes Gwen and her friends to a beautiful mountain range and it was a great setting. They also visit another Mythos Academy and I loved seeing another school and the similarities and differences. And while this is the fifth book in the series there are still new things we learn, secrets that get unveiled and new characters we meet. There are fights with the reapers and the battle between the reapers and the Pantheon continues. This is another great instalment in this series and I can't wait to finally read the last book as well.
I really Gwen and her friend, they are a tight group who help each other and stand together in battle. Then there's Vic, Gwen's talking sword, which is still one of my favourite characters. We also meet some new characters in this book which I quickly grown to like. I was a bit disappointed by how Logan was absent and while I understood his reasoning I also thought he should have been there for Gwen. He's afraid of hurting her again, but while Gwen believes in him, he doesn't believe in himself. This made me like him a bit less and I hope we can finally see them together and fighting side by side in the last book.
In terms of world building there isn't added much, although we learn a bit more about a mythology creature we haven't met before so far and some pieces of information are added. There's also the search for the artefacts and what they can do, where we learn some new things. So in terms of world building it's a steady continuation of the previous books.
To conclude: another great book in this series, after a few chapters I was sucked into this story and didn't want to stop reading. While this series isn't perfect I love it and each book makes me hungry for more. There is action, adventure, friendship and more. This book provides Gwen and her friends with a new challenge and they meet some new characters. I hope to read the last book soon as now I am back in this series I want to know how it ends!
