Oh man! I really should have read all the books in this universe in order. My goodness! Ava is the public relations director of the Washington Wolves of the NFL. She's a badass. Men fear her. She gets shit done. She's completely unflappable - until she hears Matthew Hawkins is joining the team. She had a huge crush on him when she last saw him 10 years ago. The problem? He was engaged to her sister at the time and he had just found out she cheated on him.

Ava's sister is a piece of work and everything is always all about her, and when Matthew was around he was the only one who actually noticed Ava. The two of them are friendly from the start and he loves the grown woman she's turned into. But, their history forces them to keep their evolving relationship a secret. And, it doesn't help when another teammate gets in the way. So many obstacles!

🔥: These two are steamy together, but we don't get all the graphic details. Scenes are quickly paced and super sensuous, though!
😆: There's some comic relief along the way, especially as these two get to know each other better. And I always love to see cameos from Allie and Paige.
😭: I didn't cry with this one, but there are some tough moments to get through. Your tissues are safe, but be prepared to read this in one sitting because you won't be able to put it down!

My biggest takeaway from this one was seeing a different side of Logan, book 3's MC. I absolutely need to reread that one now!

“I am in love with you, Matthew Hawkins, and I'll risk any recourse, any complication, and any fallout for you to trust in that more than you've ever trusted in anything." I pressed my hands to my chest and met his stare. "I want this, between us, to be the truest and most constant thing you've ever known because that's what it is for me.”

MATTHEW HAWKINS LET ME TALK TO YOU!!

These two made me so so soft for them, I adored them and this book so much. Although I wasn't really a fan of that tiny unrequited love triangle, which was super unecessary, I was SO here for the angst! And God did these two give me that and made me FEEL it!
Another thing I adored was Paige, Ava and Allie's friendship! Man do I love me a book/series with good, healthy, fun and supportive female friendship!!

Also, Paige Adams is everything and my absolute favorite in this series AND I CAN'T WAIT TO READ HER BOOK!!

The only mistake I made while reading this series was not reading the books in order. I honestly did not think I would enjoy the tropes endorsed in this book but I was pleasantly surprised

THIS BOOK.
THE FEELS.
THE CHARACTERS.
THE ROMANCE!!!!

I always find it hard to put my feelings into words. Especially when I love a book so much.

The Ex Effect had me feeling all the things. The romance in the story was literally everything!! Ava and Matthew could not have been any cuter.

I adored Ava and her love for chocolate. She was so cute and adorable and a very relatable character.

And MATTHEW FREAKING HAWKINS

I started off liking the plot and Ava for most of the book but towards the end she really annoyed me with the stupid, avoidable issues. Her 'grand gesture' could have been much better and the ending felt a bit abrupt. The whole love triangle with Logan was also unexpected and a little unnecessary in my opinion. But Matthew was pretty good so it was alright.
