This collection of stories is beautiful and diverse with a whole host of characters and plots that are distinct but still fit together well. If you’ve read Holly Black’s other works, you’ll recognize the short that inspired Coldest Girl in Coldtown, the setting of In Vodka Veritas, as well as the entire cast and setting of The Land of Heart’s Desire. The thirteen shorts included in this book are impossible to resist.
Moderate: Addiction, Child abuse, Chronic illness, Cursing, Death, Drug use, Incest, Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Sexual content, Suicidal thoughts, Violence, Blood, Vomit, Kidnapping, Death of parent, Murder, and Alcohol

Out of 12 short stories (all of them are dark and mostly sad, typical Holly Black), my most favorite is The Coat of Stars. I feel all the feels with this story. So emotionally draining and the saving grace for me is that it ends with a happy ending, which is unexpected from this collection of stories.
Graphic: Death and Murder
Moderate: Child abuse and Suicide
