The Magic Toyshop by Angela Carter

I just loved this book! It was nothing like I was expecting and it went beyond any of my usual expectations. It was written in a way that reminds me of how Frances Hodgens Burnett writes his books but the story itself feels as twisted and unsettling as Flowers in The Attic. Having it told from a 15-year-old girls perspective was a good choice because it shows coming of age, trauma and the uneasiness of girlhood from what feels like a real 15-year-old girl. I adored the characters and how unique the story was.

The ending was a bit abrupt but I suppose that I couldn’t really imagine anything more past that. Overall, a book that I waited to long to read and is now pretty high up on my favorites list.
