A Traitor in Whitehall by Julia Kelly

4.0

Evelyne Redfern is a smart and enterprising young woman working in the CWR (Churchill War Room) during WWII at the height of the German Blitz in London. Appointed on a secret mission to work in the typing pool and observe suspicious events, she is the first one on the scene to find one of her fellow typists, viciously murdered. She teams up with David Poole, supposedly a secretary to one of the ministers, to find out who murdered the typist, and who has been leaking secret information out of the CWR. It is a race to find a murderer and a traitor, while the Luftwaffe drop bombs on London night after night.

This novel was as exciting and interesting as it sounds! We have a likeable and adventurous heroine in Evelyne, a diverse group of potential suspects with secrets to hide, a murder victim who was generally disliked, and a fascinating historical setting. As other readers have noted, it is written very much in the Agatha Christie style, evoking memories of Tommy and Tuppence to some degree, giving it a definite nostalgic appeal. Reading this created an urge to go to London to visit the locations described. Looking forward to reading the next book in this new series.

Many thanks to Minotaur for the gifted copy, which I greatly enjoyed. If you are a fan of the classic British mystery, then don't miss this one!
