Honestly I really love Rachel Hawkins so just about everything she writes gets 5 stars. If I wasn’t a major fan this book probably would have been 4 stars.
Rachel writes all her books in first pov (not my favorite but I enjoy her writing style so it works in my favor) and there are points in the book that are on the “now” always first pov with main character Lux and some in the “before” that are third pov in other characters. I think this book (and many others) would have benefited by being written just in third POV.
It had a twist ending (imo) that I enjoyed, although it had some great one liners that I wish she would have brought back (spoiler at the end).
The characters were well developed and you either loved them or hated them and it’s exactly what Rachel wanted.
The story telling is good, the first main part of the book is setting up what happens in the last 1/3 but because it’s a super easy read I didn’t have any issues with that.
Overall a book I was excited for and read while on a tropical island in the middle of the ocean, it was a great read and I’m excited to have a sister book to “The Wife Upstairs”
SPOILER: somewhere in the book it is stated that legally Lux owns Susanna (the boat) and after an argument later in the book Nico (the boyfriend) said “it’s MY boat” and I really wanted lux to laugh because technically it’s not.
