The Shelf by Helly Acton

This book. This book was fantastic.

Helly Acton has such a knack for capturing reality tv and how it’s received in the UK, it’s done so well and so authentically.

The main thing that stood out in this book was the message. That women should be allowed to be true to themselves in whatever bloody way that is; whether a woman wants to travel the world, single as a Pringle or be a homemaker with a husband and a bundle of kids all of that is FINE, if that’s what she wants.

That’s a true conception of Girl Power!! in my opinion and the way Helly incorporates this theme of women loving themselves and staying true to what they genuinely want from life is moving, hilarious, honestly so aggravating at times and ultimately so very enjoyable.

This is a boom I found myself laughing aloud, huffing and puffing and shouting while listening to. Reading this was just as fun (if not MORE fun), than watching a season of Love Island. Major recommendation an easy 5/5 for me!

Edit: Also, I don’t know how much a romance this can be considered to be.
