"She has shown me Her grace ... not through miracles, but through the kindness of those who stood to gain nothing from helping me. It is through the hands of strangers that She has carried out Her will."

Once again, I reiterate that Margaret Rogerson is an instant buy author for me for a very good reason. Her characterization, her world-building, and her writing have such a beautiful quality to them where they aren't overcomplicated/overly flowery, which is supported by how stellar her MCs are. Artemisia is an absolute menace to this revenant and when my friend said it was like a buddy-cop novel between a nun and a ghost, I was SOLD. Rogerson did an awesome job of fleshing out their relationship and the slow growth and change from the beginning to end was lovely.

But I think what I loved a lot about this MC was the fact she was so stubborn in believing she was on her own, despite everyone having her back. It took almost the entirety of the book for her to realize she was not alone. It was so beautiful. Makes me shed a tear. I love Artemisia. One of the blurbs on the back of the book compares Margaret Rogerson to Dianna Wynne Jones and I'd have to whole-heartedly agree. If you love the characters and world-building of DWJ's novels, you'll love Margaret Rogerson.

Anyway, if you haven't read anything by Rogerson, go. Do it now.
