This is a highly readable book by NPR’s All Things Considered host Mary Louise Kelly. Kelly uses the last year of her son’s high school career (and his last year at home) to reflect on work, parenthood, and the intersection between the two - what she gave up on the parent side and on the work side as she balanced the demands of being a mom and being a high powered journalist. During this year Kelly dealt with her father’s death and her mother’s aging and well as other curveballs in her personal life as she covered the Biden presidency and the war in Ukraine for millions of viewers. Every mother or parent who has had a difficult and demanding job and who wants to be their for their child’s academic and extracurricular will relate to Kelly’s struggles, triumphs, and musings on parenthood and work. A great book!!
