The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House by Audre Lorde
5.0
This is the first book I own that I have actively annotated, in order to get a deeper understanding of what Lorde is trying to portray as well as the joy of interacting with the text as I’m reading it. Still very unfamiliar to me, I believe that this did help me grasp the essays in a different way, and hopefully they will stay with me in a more clear manner- I have only to follow the colourful sticky notes and underlined passages to reconnect with what touched me, what seemed important at the time.
The essays themselves offered a lot of depth. When I thought Lorde left things yet to be considered she made me eat my own words by weaving her arguments together on later pages. Her voice is compelling and beautiful, what she has to say with it did give me some new perspectives on things- which is why I picked up this handy little copy to begin with.
I’m interested in reading more of her work, but I do shy away from poetry with an uncomfortable scowl… I should really work on that.
