Do you know the meme "this book broke my heart and shattered my soul, please, please PLEAAAASE read it!"? Well, that's Heaven for you.

This triggering, raw, emotional coming of age story talks about bullying, isolation, frienship and love from a non judgemental and compassionate perspective.

Kawakami's writing is beautiful, as usual.

What I didn't like:

Sometimes the characters sound way older than they are. I'm not saying teenagers are incapable of complex thoughts. And I'm aware that going through hardships at a young age can make you wise beyond your physical age. But still, I feel sometimes the author forgets she's writing middle schoolers.

But that's just a minor inconvenience.
