This was billed as Blair Witch meets Midsommar and, sure, I guess, but both of those movies had a point. This was so brutal to get through — not content-wise; I was just so bored.

To be fair, I lost interest pretty early on and coasted for the rest of the way. There was so much potential in the set-up but I was against pretty much every narrative choice the author made. Split past/present timelines? Didn’t need it. Entire sections about fangirling over a pastor? Okay but no! Or how it all felt more like melodrama than an actual mystery or thriller or supernatural story or whatever this was supposed to be. It moved SO SLOWLY that I wish I disappeared. Was I supposed to be scared? Unnerved? Like I know I coasted this book, but I still felt… nothing after it ended. It took such a long time for essentially so little to happen. Bad pacing, overlong story, nary a thrill to be found… Who edited this? Name names!!!!
