Apparently I should have read this prior to the Lacey Flint series since there is a same character in both this book and that series. It kind of ruined any suspense I had about that character since I knew what would be happening to her in the future. Sigh. That was kind of a disappointment. The book was ok. I learned a lot about the Shetland Islands and I always enjoy learning interesting tidbits in books I read. As for the actual location, I found it a weird setting. So bland and gloomy.
The main character was -again - just ok. Her relationships with her husband and her boss flummoxed me. I did not understand her motivations and in fact several of her reactions to their behaviors drove me nuts. The ending with her husband struck me as especially off-putting. Maybe it was supposed to be romantic? Huh.
As for the mystery itself, I guessed a lot of it early on. It really stretched the imagination, however. The entire concept was just weird and off. Are there really that many women seeking late term abortions in the UK? *shakes head slowly in confusion* The entire time I was reading this book I had an expression on my face like that of the character April in Parks and Rec.
