Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu by Matt Owens
2.0
I was a bit baffled why they’d drop a Mace Windu miniseries at a time when there was no promotion to be made for any prequel-related big release. When I checked the release dates of the initial issues, it made a little more sense: summer to winter 2017 – the run-up to The Last Jedi.
Besides Windu and a Jedi strike team being deployed to some generic early Clone Wars mission, the big conflict is one of said strike team mutinying on Mace and laying out why he believes the Jedi lost their way and became tools to the Republic’s political goals.
That’s a little slicker than I thought, usually it’s just “promo comic featuring character or setting from movie,” this one was “promo comic featuring themes from upcoming movie”. Pretty galaxy brained for SW!
Unfortunately, while proficient enough in the telling, it’s nothing that wasn’t covered already in Charles Soule’s Obi-Wan and Anakin mini. I guess the mercenary droid and his exasperation with the baby brain battle droids were pretty amusing.
Props for the ugliest fucking Yoda I have ever seen tho. I guffawed at that motherfucker.
