Honestly... This book almost got 2 stars from me LOL
The ending was a whirlwind that I needed to reread in order to understand what was actually said because I was genuinely confused about what happened. There were a lot of reveals... A few that I had already seen coming and one that I still think wasn't really necessary at all.
This book follows James who is a businessman with some questionable hobbies on the side and Wendy who is a college student. The dual perspective of this book helped the story a lot, in my opinion. Seeing how certain situations affected each character really helped me to understand the story.
James has quite the mouth on him... I will admit that he did nickname Wendy "pet" which kinda gave me the ick... Kinda just wish he stuck with calling her "darling" the entire time.
Wendy was more headstrong than I think she got credit for. She had a lot to unpack in her life and past. Her father used to be someone that she looked up to, but drifted away from, she was basically mothering her younger brother, and she had no real friends in this new place that she moved to.
When Wendy meets James she has no idea who she is, but James 100% knew who Wendy was but just didn't tell her.
I truly enjoyed the story but I will say that it gets DARK. This author did not care about triggers LOL. She just went for it (which I loved). There's definitely torture and there's gore thanks to James and his hobbies, but I loved how it was worked into the story and wasn't overdone.
Their romance was a bit questionable for a second, but I did love their story in the end.
Overall, I can't wait to read more of these twisted stories from this author!
