Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling

This review is for the audiobook read by Stephen Fry – my Mum is very much a Harry Potter fan and especially loves listening to the Harry Potter books and as I walk through the kitchen I keep hearing snippets so finally thought I would give them a go myself. I have read the books myself before but don't normally listen to audio books. However, it is great hearing Stephen make the characters come alive he is superb with the voices giving each one a distinctive sound and really capturing the necessary inflections and accents to convey the full sense and atmosphere of what is happening. You really feel the excitement of events as they unfold. I found myself laughing at various points. I especially enjoyed Stephen's interpretation of Hermione Granger and her fast cadence. Even though I know the story well now I still feel the fun and excitement of Harry discovering and exploring this whole new world of magic – it is magic. It is great to go back and start at the very beginning knowing how the story pans out and revisiting the characters as they begin their journey.

I highly recommend listening to the audiobooks even if you've read the books before.
