Gary Maddox is an ex-cop, private investigator living in Sydney. He takes a job to recover a missing piece of art and this leads him to another job that in the end puts his life in danger. It's not the job he would normally take, but then he didn't know that it was going to lead to guns and death.

I really enjoyed this no nonsense private investigator story. There's no fluff and padding and it's the way I like my stories. I hope there's more in this series. It's a bit reminiscent of Peter Corris's Cliff Hardy novels which I enjoy and recommend it for those that enjoy Australian stories.
