Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean

If you enjoy the premise of "lost royal teens" a la Princess Diaries, you will feel right at home within the pages of Tokyo Ever After.

Where there could have been melodrama, there was comfort instead, especially surrounding family storylines. There are great parent/child relationships here, as well as supportive friends who have personality clashes which made them feel whole. The stakes are important to Izumi, though they're not so high that they're stressful for readers, which puts this squarely in the cozy contemporary romance category for me.

The romance could have played out longer, especially the build up to it, but I'm a personal sucker for a slow burn, and enjoyed how this unfolded regardless. I don't know if it necessarily warranted a sequel, but I'm not opposed to visiting Izumi and Akai again either.
